5 Senses

When one is in a new place and new environment, I think the best way to experience and take in all there are is to use one’s 5 senses.

1) See – Observe the difference of cultures, how people dresses, how families interact, how people communicate; London is a melting pot with so many different cultures all centralised in one place. There are obviously weird dressers, but no one seems to care or take offence with their dressing, one will notice that families here like families all over the world would spend time with each other on weekends, especially if they have small children, teenagers roams the streets after school and on weekends with a buncha friends; spending time at bus stops and parks hanging around smoking and drinking, some are too young to smoke! People here love to hang out at cafes and pubs. Their daily staple I believe!

2) Hear/ Listen – If one were to pay attention and listen carefully, only a small percentage of people actually speak English. If one is on the tube or buses, most often than not, you will hear people converse in so many other different languages; French, italiano, Polish, Thai, Indian, Cantonese, Mandarin etc. And even if some were to be conversing in English, there is a difference in slang spoken that one will know that English is not that person’s first language. Which goes to prove that London is really a cosmopolitan city where people from all over the world will come be it for a hols or to earn a living.

3) Taste – English food is really not something to my fancy; fish and chips, pasty puff, scones and apple crumble… having said that, all over London are dominated with food from many different parts of the world..but I would hafta say, the top three favourites of Brits should be: Chinese, Indian and Italian! Why? Cos one can find either one of those at every nook and cranny in London!

4) Smell – London is a polluted city. I quite enjoy walking to work in the mornings to work. The heavy traffic and the smell of carbon monoxide reminds me of home!

5) Touch/ Feel – I like the crisp cool morning air and the blue blue cloudless sky on those really good sunny mornings in summer. Having said that, I also enjoy the windy, dreary and rainy days (especially a windy and rainy evening) especially if I can stay at home and snuggle into my duvet when it gets too cold…although not yet, as the autumn and winter is still yet to be experienced!

BTW carbon monoxide is odourless, that's why it's so dangerous, especially in confined spaces. :)
